What are the benefits
of being a contractor?
Kari Christesen/Human Resource Staffing
The question I am asked most frequently by candidates who
are seeking HR positions is; why should I consider being a
contracted employee as opposed to continuing to look at long-term
or career positions.
To be truthful, before starting with Human Resource Staffing,
I hadn’t even considered the option of working as a
contract employee. If I would have known then, what I know
now, I could have started my HR career much sooner.
There are many benefits to becoming a contracted employee
at every level of human resources.
It may be a bit unnerving to try contract work over long-term
or permanent employment, but the benefits outweigh the negatives.
You are getting your foot in the door, working a flexible
schedule with good pay and benefits, gaining exposure in the
HR arena and ultimately increasing your HR knowledge and experience.
You are now in a better position for that next great HR opportunity.
For the entry-level HR professional, contract work is a great
way to gain the HR experience that your current resume lacks.
We work closely with employers to find the right environment
where your human resource education and skills can be used
and enhanced with your on the job exposure. This is a great
way to acquire that experience that most employers are looking
for.
For mid to executive-level HR professionals, contract work
also has its benefits. By becoming a contracted employee you
can broaden your HR experience in new and different companies
as well as gain insight and exposure to the HR culture in
a variety of industries. Working contract allows you to specialize
in the particular area of HR you enjoy the most. Contract
work is great for professionals who are in transition or between
jobs. You keep your skills sharp; have another job experience
to add to your resume, while you are exposed to companies
that are looking for long-term or permanent candidates.
A contract position can be an answer for both; a short term
position and a long-term full time career position.
