The changing world of recruiting

There are few careers that have changed in recent years as
much as the job of a recruiter. Web sites such as Monster,
Career Builder & Hot jobs have changed the way employers
search, recruit and hire employees. Gone are the days of job
postings on bulletin boards or placing large and expensive
ads in a newspaper. Today most recruiting is done through
an effective, more global and inclusive internet posting and
search.
A successful recruiter selects and manages web site "sources"
from among thousands of sites. They contact the best candidates
about the specifics of a job and recommend the most qualified
candidates from their pre-screened pool to the appropriate
department manager or HR department.
A Recruiter’s skills include; timeliness, the ability
to multitask, self-motivation, tenaciousness and patience.
Time is of the essence in all searches as clients would like
to start interviewing within two-three days of notifying recruiters
of their needs. Many recruiters are working on 15-35 openings
at any one time.
Often applicants can get lost in the internet jungle if the
application does not include the right tags for searching.
Tia Vang, an HR Staffing recruiter, stated, “Though
personal networking and employee referrals remain extremely
important, big job boards provide a continuous source for
candidates. Some of those job boards include; Monster, Career
Builder and Hot Jobs.”
A growing new career in recruitment is to hire sourcers to
assist in the recruitment process. Sourcers assist recruiters
in finding the best sites to find the most qualified candidates.
Industry specific sites are very effective for finding candidates
with specialized skills such as engineers, health care professionals,
IT specialists and industry specific salespeople.
Hannah Robbins, an HR Staffing Recruiter stated, “When
you look beyond the general multi-purpose sites there are
a variety of options whose effectiveness depends upon the
type of candidate you are seeking.” Nitch job sites
attract a more focused audience. Some nitch sites include
insurancejobs.com, salestrax.com and hybrid networking sites
such as linkedin, jobster, ziggs and zoominfo.
The Internet world has changed the way of recruiting.
