Tips
on Job descriptions... Finding
the best talent
Don Schmitz/Human Resource Staffing
Attracting
the most qualified employees and matching them to the jobs for
which they are best suited is critical for all companies to
remain competitive in today's global world of recruitment. The
purpose of writing any job description is to create an outline
for finding the best talent to do the best job.
It takes a team to effectively create a job description. It
should begin with the supervisor and include the necessary information
to accomplish the duties successfully. This job description
includes: the duties, knowledge, skills, abilities, credentials,
experience and special requirements needed to successfully accomplish
the task effectively.
The human resource expert adds compliance information, marketability
and policies of the organization. The job description should
be written in brief and clear sentences beginning with action
verbs such as; develops, designs, nurtures and creates. Instead
of listing requirements, include opportunities and make the
title something catchy. You will attract a different quality
of person if your ad stands out. Comprehensive job descriptions
are used in selection, training, compensation and performance
appraisal.
To attract the best and brightest talent, include as many skills
as responsibilities. More responsibilities will limit the number
of applicants. Too narrow job descriptions will make it difficult
to fill and increase the time and expense of finding the best
candidate.
An effective job description is a major factor in the process of finding the best talent.
